Schengen visa training in Reykjavik
On 13 May 2026, Daniel carried out a training in Reykjavik in the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Over 20 experts from the Ministry, Border Guards and the Immigration Office attended in person, while several other colleagues from Icelanding missions joined remotely.
The training focused on lessons learned from Schengen evaluation missions, especially as regards the cooperation with external service providers and the examination of visa applications. Important organisational matters (harmonisation of procedures between the HQ and embassies; consultation and coordination at the national level) were also dealt with in the context of the hybrid organisational visa processing being implemented by Iceland.

On 25 June 2026, Daniel made a presentation at the annual Consular Training at the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This training focused on dos and don-ts as a newly posted visa official.
Advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence in visa processing
Work is ongoing on a detailed analysis to examine how advanced technologies (including AI) could be integrated into the future paperless visa processes in compliance with applicable legal safeguards while retaining the central role of human decision-makers. The analysis intends to put forward practical ideas in order to trigger launching a discussion on the matter. The first results of the study is expected to be published during the fall of 2026.
